This 1903 Catalogue of this important manufacturer of veterinary instruments was a contractor to His Majesty's Government, The Sanitary Administration of Eygpt and Makers by Special Appointment to the Melbourne Veterinary College. The Catalogue is primarily for work with horses with every conceivable kind of instrument and apparatus: anatomical models of horses; latern slides and diagrams; anatomical dissecting instruments; restraining appliances; operating table; pocket operating knives; dental instruments and cases; castrating and artificial inseminators and other gynaecological instruments plus a section on corrective horse shoes. The advertisements are very illustrative. Every other item throughout is well illustrated.

They were located in Newton, North Wales and operated a mail order system and had there own Post Office and their own railway carriages to transport their clothes. Appointed by the Englsih Royal Family, the Empress' of Russia and Germany and the Queen of Italy. Every conceivable kind of outwear and underwear for women is portrayed in this catalogue as well as children's and men's clothing. Fully illustrated throughout. Slight paper tears on the back covern and spine.

This is a 1979 limited reprint (600) of the 1876 edition and is subtitled "Tools, Instruments, Machines, Processes and Engineering, a History of Inventions, General Technological Vocabulary and Digest of Mechanical Appliaces in Science and the Arts. The work covers in alphabetical order every conceivable mechanical subject from 'Agricultural Implements' to 'Zincography' (engraving on zinc in the style of woodcuts). Knight had been in charge of the classification and publications at the US Patent Office. The first 3 volumes were labelled: A-FEL, FELT_PER and PER-ZYM and contained some 5000 engravings including 15 full page illustrations. The 4th volume called KNIGHT'S NEW MECHANICAL DICTIONARY, was completed after the author's death in 1883 and is labelled A-Z and contains some 3000 engravings including 56 full page illustrations. This set is No. 415 of the 600 reprinted copies and was undertaken jointly by the Early American Industries Association and the Mid-West Tool Collectors Association. All four volumes are in excellent condition and virtually unused.

Founded in 1850, Walter MacFarlane's foundry was one of the most famous and largest of all ironworks, supplying everything from drains and pipe fittings through ornamental balustrades and lamps, fountains to entire buildings. This seventh edition concentrates on drain pipers, cisterns, and ornamental gutters, castings and ridges for baths and sinks and some highly attractive metal baths. The final 200 pp. show 'miscellanous castings' for some rather ornate water troughs, dust bins for mansions, villas, tenements etc., stable loose-boxes, wash-house fittings and electrical light fittings, lamp standards, pillars and wall brackets and examples of castings for bandstands, pavilions, railings, kiosks and shop fronts. A beautifully illustrated catalogue of the products made by MacFarlane's at the turn of the 19th/20th century. Boards bound in green cloth with gilt and black borders and gilt lettering. An extremely good copy.

Carriage lamps, brushes and curry combs, stable fittings and a section on saddlers' and curriers' tools. The majority of illustrations are engravings in colour. The corners of a number of pages a re turned are the corners of the front cover. However the contents are complete. The signsature in the front is of R. A. Salaman indiciting that it came from his collection. Cover corners frayed and edges of some pages turned, but contents undamaged. A very rare catalogue.

They were the sole agents for Hoopes, Bro. & Darlington's American wheels and wheel timber. Unusually, there is no mention of any early motor car ironmongery.

They also specialised in work for the railway industry and carriage and wagon builders. They also produced various forms of boilers and portable steam engines.

A reprint of the 1816 edition. Often abbreviated as "Smith's Key", though Smith was the engraver and publisher. The Key is a very important catalogue of Sheffield tools in that it shows examples that were made in Sheffield at the time by all manufacturers, not just one, and it is divided into three parts: 1) tools for carpenters, joiners, coopers, curriers and farmers; 2) tools devoted to the cutlery trade and 3) contains surgical and dental instruments. Extensive illustrations of each item mentioned in the text. In this reprint there is also included the contemporary price lists of James Cam for the tools and Marsh and Shepherd for the pen and pocket knives. Boards bound in grey cloth with gilt lettering to the cover and spine. Comes with original dust cover in light grey.
