This Catalogue (circa 1920) by the major English manufacturer of veterinary instruments contains every conceivable instrument and appliance that could be needed and used, and all are illustrated. At the time Arnold & Sons had just amalgamated with John Bell & Croyden. Both firms had now been established for 100 years. The firm held Royal Warrants from George V and also Queen Alexandria, the King of Spain and the Shah of Persia, and they were appointed manufacturers to The Army, Navy, The Honourable Council of India, Crown Agent for the Colonies, The Governments of Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Egypt and the Royal Veterinary College and His Majesty's Prisons. There are 4 pp. of advertisements in the front of the Catalogue The binding is rubbed in places, but all the pages are intact and undamaged.

In this 1973 edition some 280 specimends of walking sticks are shown in this book and they are a fine introduction to 'Ambulistics' - the study and collecting of walking sticks. Among the those described here are such unusual ones as the one with a hearing aid battery, one with scissors for cutting grapes in a vinery and one made from a gigantic cabbage stalk. Here are also dangerous ones such as those with a flick knife and those made in form of a sword sticks. Jacket unclipped with a mylar covering. There is a neat stamp on the title page indicating that the book was in the Army Library, York. Excellent condition.

This is a rule book compiled in about 1912 for window dressers by the trade newspaper 'The Grocer' to improve selling in the various categories of merchandise. It has more than 120 illustrations to make its point with margarine at sixpence a pound to 26 sweet oranges for a shilling. There are some 115 examples of prize winning shop window displays to be seen in this book including 'Coffee Window', An 'All British Window', The 'Oilman's Window' and tthe 'Off-licence Window'. There are also six pages each in the front and back of the book full of contemporary advertisments. Binding rubbed and a small amount of foxing on a few pages.

This 1903 Catalogue of this important manufacturer of veterinary instruments was a contractor to His Majesty's Government, The Sanitary Administration of Eygpt and Makers by Special Appointment to the Melbourne Veterinary College. The Catalogue is primarily for work with horses with every conceivable kind of instrument and apparatus: anatomical models of horses; latern slides and diagrams; anatomical dissecting instruments; restraining appliances; operating table; pocket operating knives; dental instruments and cases; castrating and artificial inseminators and other gynaecological instruments plus a section on corrective horse shoes. The advertisements are very illustrative. Every other item throughout is well illustrated.

This is a 1979 limited reprint (600) of the 1876 edition and is subtitled "Tools, Instruments, Machines, Processes and Engineering, a History of Inventions, General Technological Vocabulary and Digest of Mechanical Appliaces in Science and the Arts. The work covers in alphabetical order every conceivable mechanical subject from 'Agricultural Implements' to 'Zincography' (engraving on zinc in the style of woodcuts). Knight had been in charge of the classification and publications at the US Patent Office. The first 3 volumes were labelled: A-FEL, FELT_PER and PER-ZYM and contained some 5000 engravings including 15 full page illustrations. The 4th volume called KNIGHT'S NEW MECHANICAL DICTIONARY, was completed after the author's death in 1883 and is labelled A-Z and contains some 3000 engravings including 56 full page illustrations. This set is No. 415 of the 600 reprinted copies and was undertaken jointly by the Early American Industries Association and the Mid-West Tool Collectors Association. All four volumes are in excellent condition and virtually unused.

This is a reference book of historical colours produced by Thos Parsons & Sons who were founded in London 1802 by George Parsons as colour and varnish makers. The book shows swatches of 136 colours under six headings; yellows and browns, blues and purples, reds and greys.The text discusses the colours in their historical contexts from, for example; Colours of Eygpt, Verdure Tapestry, Wedgwood Blue, Adam Brothers and Beauvais Tapestry. Each swatch of colour has been pasted down on to a heavy sheet of paper which has then been guarded into the book and interleaved with tissue. This is the deluxe edition of 1934 and the colours are very fresh even after 73 years. The binding and the end papers are of the same material. 35 x 185 mm. 74 pp. 30 colour plates on heavy paper. They were located in Newton, North Wales and operated a mail order system and had there own Post Office and their own railway carriages to transport their clothes. Every conceivable kind of outwear and underwear for women is portrayed in this catalogue as well as children's and men's clothing. Fully illustrated throughout.
